And this is done when governments, environmental groups, indigenous(a.本地的) people and, of course, the traveler, all work together. It’s still a vacation though(adv.雖然): Ecotourists may tread(v. 步行) the paths of rainforests or swim with sharks. People travel halfway around the world to see gorillas(n.大猩猩) in their native habitat(n.棲息地), so it’s profitable for host countries to protect their fauna(n.動物群); hence(adv.所以) the saying, “Wildlife pays, so wildlife stays.” The challenge for popular destinations(n.目的地) is accommodating(v.容納) everyone who wants to see them without destroying parts by building bigger hotels on natural landscapes, or hosting(v.招待) large crowds that could trample(v.踐踏) or litter(v.弄亂) pristine(a.原始的) locations. So, if you’re looking to join an ecotour, you can expect smaller groups of tourists, native(a.本地的) tour guides(n.嚮導) who both know the land and how to take care of it, and part of the money you spend going back to the community(n.社區) you visit.
